London has many options when it comes to hotel rooms, but not all hotels are created equal. We have found it difficult to find a London property for large families. On our recent trip, we found a five star, central hotel in London that was the perfect fit, The Athenaeum Hotel & Residences. Located in Mayfair with views overlooking Green Park, the hotel offered adjoining rooms and lovely amenities for kids.

What Families will Love about The Athenaeum Hotel

Central London Location

The Athenaeum Hotel & Residences lies right in the heart of Mayfair, less than a half mile from Buckingham Palace, and right between Green Park and Hyde Park. There is easy access to two different tube stations, Green Park and Hyde Park Corner, and bus stops across the road. We had a fun time exploring the local neighborhood, the parks, and shops like Fortnum & Mason.

Comfortable family rooms

Upon entering the rooms, we were pleasantly surprised with the space and the beautiful view overlooking Green Park. Park View rooms are luxurious with king size beds, a sitting area, and floor to ceiling windows for enjoying the world as it passes by below.

There was a door between our rooms and the boys had an additional twin bed provided by the staff. It was an extremely comfortable hotel for a family of 5 in London.

The Residences

There are eighteen luxury serviced apartments adjacent to The Athenaeum Hotel. Each one measures 550 sq ft and comes with a fully equipped kitchen, spacious living area, and 24 hour room service. When traveling to London with a large family, these apartments can accommodate, with king size or twin size beds and a bunk bed or sofa bed option.

Family friendly activities

The Athenaeum Hotel & Residences has a dedicated children’s concierge, making sure every guest enjoys their stay. They offer a variety of activities from arranging a kite-flying session in Hyde Park to making sure milk and biscuits are waiting at bedtime.

When guests make plans to stay at The Athenaeum, the concierge sends a questionnaire asking about your child’s favorite things and will have those items waiting in the room when you arrive. Their goal is to make everyone feel welcome at The Athenaeum.

The concierge can arrange for games, books, toys, movies, video games, and even bike rides. There was a lovely collection of games, movies, and toys for our kids to enjoy as well as food for feeding the ducks and geese at the nearby parks. If needed, there are fully qualified nannies available to look after your children.

Amenities at The Athenaeum

REN Spa

If anyone fancies some relaxation, there is a beautiful spa on property that offers a variety of beauty treatments as well as manicures and pedicures. There is also a steam room, sauna, and two cedar wood hot tubs which would be perfect after a long day of travel or exploring the city.

Fitness Center

There is a 24 hour fitness center available at The Athenaeum. It offers a variety of cardio equipment and weights, as well as access to the steam room, sauna, and wood hot tubs.

Dining at The Athenaeum

Galvin at The Athenaeum is the hotel’s main restaurant, offering breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, and dinner. The restaurant is run by brothers Chris and Jeff Galvin, and features locally sourced ingredients. There is a special children’s menu offered for lunch and dinner featuring favorites like hamburgers and Mac n’ cheese, and the breakfast buffet has many options for everyone in your group.

The Bar at The Athenaeum

The hotel has a lovely terrace and bar that is perfect for cocktails and serves snacking dishes. It has a beautiful view out to Green Park and is perfect for watching the world pass by.

The View

The Athenaeum’s top floor is home to The View, a luxurious lounge offering stunning views of London. Hotel guests can enjoy complimentary treats from Galvin while taking in London from above.
